Chemical Peel

Chemical peels are cosmetic procedures that can be applied to the face, arms and neck. They are used to improve the look or feel of the skin. During this process, a chemical solution is applied to the treated area, causing the skin to peel and eventually peel off. When this happens, the new skin underneath is often smoother,  less wrinkled, and thinner.

Types of Peels:

  • Superficial peels, which use mild acids like alpha-hydroxy acid to gently exfoliate. It only penetrates the outermost layer of skin.
  • Medium peels, which use trichloroacetic or glycolic acid to reach the middle and outer layer of skills. This makes it more effective for removing damaged skin cells.
  •  Deep peels, which fully penetrate the middle layer of the skin to remove damaged skin cells; these peels often use phenol or trichloroacetic acid.

Cyclists have noted that hair-free legs improve wound healing should they fall and get road rash. Another claim is that smooth legs are easier to massage. The oils and lotions don’t get oll gummed up in hair and it simply feels better to have a massage on smooth legs. The athletes that can benefit from nano-second aerodynamic, or rather hydrodynamic improvements are swimmers. Swimmers have a long history of the “shave and taper” system before the big swim meets.

While cyclists typically shave only legs (usually up to the short-line), swimmers de-forest the entire body. They shave any area not covered by a swimsuit. With the new, full-body swimsuits, where the hair removal starts and stops is more variable.
